O Conselho Nacional do Café (CNC) tem como foco permanente de atuação a sustentabilidade econômica da cafeicultura, de forma a garantir uma renda próspera aos cafeicultores brasileiros. É fundamental lembrar que esse cenário é consequência do equilíbrio entre a oferta e a demanda por café, situação que deve ser preservada.
Na contramão dessa tendência, governos estaduais e órgãos públicos têm estimulado a expansão da área cultivada de café no Brasil. “De forma recorrente, recebemos notícias de incentivos a novos plantios de café em regiões não tradicionais, a exemplo de programas de distribuição de mudas com alto potencial produtivo. Isso nos preocupa, porque tais iniciativas não estão acompanhadas de esforços simultâneos para o aumento do consumo”, comenta o presidente do CNC, Silas Brasileiro.
Brasileiro recorda que, há alguns anos, o CNC propôs e aprovou, no Conselho Deliberativo da Política do Café (CDPC), uma estratégia de comunicação a órgãos públicos e bancos de fomento para criar consciência sobre os resultados negativos de programas de incentivo a novos plantios desconectados de ações para promover o consumo de café. “É fundamental que os gestores públicos regionais entendam a importância do equilíbrio entre a oferta e demanda para a garantia de renda aos cafeicultores.
